It was 1957 when the first Lotus 7 was built and over the following years the car has evolved, but remained basically similar in design. When Colin Chapman designed the car, he could not have envisaged that it would still be in production today and that it would be one of the most copied cars on the market.
I also doubt he would have envisaged that over 1,000 enthusiasts and 650 cars (including 1 from every year of production) would meet on the weekend of 15th and 16th September 2007 in Norfolk to celebrate 50 years of production. The weekend was organised by the members of the Lotus 7 Club in Norfolk and Suffolk areas and what an excellent job they made of it.
Members from the Lancashire area made the trip and had a thoroughly enjoyable time with some of the best weather we’ve had this year. Events included ‘blats’ to Sandringham and Southwold, a tour of the Lotus Factory and the opportunity to take to the Lotus test track. Saturday was the main day with cars on display, scalextric competitions, a race car simulator and a number of trade stands. In the evening the hog roast was washed down with a specially brewed beer (Chapman’s Best) and entertainment provided by 2 different groups in a village made up of large marquee.
Here are some pictures of the event and video of the event – Enjoy. |
