Curborough Sprint

May & August 2007

Each year, around May and August we hire the Curborough Sprint Course for a day. Curborough is one of the circuits used for the Lotus 7 Club Speed Championship. For a modest fee, it's the opportunity for us to take our cars on track and explore the handling and speed of a 7 in relative safety and without the presence of speed cameras.
The day starts at 10.00am when 10 cars line up at the start to take turns around the double lap course. A break for lunch around 1.00pm and it’s off again at 2.00pm. The day ends at 5.00pm.
Our May event proved interesting with patchy rain throughout the day providing a slippery track which changed dramatically as it quickly dried up between the showers. There were a number of ‘novices’ who hadn’t been to Curborough and the practice was invaluable for those taking part in the L7CGB sprint on 15th May. Most keen was Malcolm Hickey who not only brought his 7 but also his Peugeot 205 GTI.
The weather for our August event was much better as luckily we managed to pick one of the few sunny days of Summer. Malcolm again brought his 2 cars together with a family of drivers, and we had another non 7 in the form of a Mitsubishi Evo. At the end of the day everybody seemed to have made good improvements and enjoyed themselves, with some now ‘hooked’ and even talking about entering the Sprint Championship.
