The planning for this years trip got off to a poor start when we were told our favourite camping spot on ‘La Musee’ wouldn’t be available. In the end however our organiser John E. managed to get some camping passes, but it looks like 2007 will be the last year this spot will be available in view of changes at the circuit. After several years of scorching weather, 2007 turned out to be a rather wet trip to Le Mans for the 17 brave ‘L.A.D.S.’. The search for a cost effective channel crossing coupled with the building of new roads in France meant that the journey is now mainly motorway – not the kind of travel that the 7 was designed for. As a result we all opted to take our more sensible saloon cars and what a good decision that turned out to be. Not only were we protected from the inclement weather on our journey, we also had space for those extra little luxuries like clean underwear and dry clothes!!
We took a new Party Tent which protected us from the rain, but very nearly blew away on a number of occasions. It was certainly in no fit state to bring home at the end of our stay.
We had our traditional Friday night meal at L’Imprevu restaurant, although this year there was new management along with a new name and as a result of the weather we ate inside rather than in the garden. As far as the racing is concerned a diesel Audi was again the overall winner, but we were all pleased to see the beautiful Astons get such good results in the GT class.
A big thanks goes to John E. for organising our trip this year and for the last few years. There are to be many changes in the camping arrangements in 2008 and John’s decided to take a break so our trip is unlikely to take place in the same format, but you never know!!
